International experts in lipodystrophies will gather in Santiago de Compostela for the XIV International Lipodystrophy Symposium, organised by AELIP and UETeM Lab.

The scientific programme on 16 October will cover key advances in the field, including rare-disease diagnosis, acquired and familial lipodystrophies, liver physiology, incretin-based therapies, bone health, nutrition, metabolic treatments, genetics and the ECLip Registry. The meeting will open with a lecture by Prof. Ángel Carracedo on the IMPaCT Genomics project and the challenge of ending the diagnostic odyssey in rare diseases.

The programme will also feature contributions from leading international specialists, including Prof. Rubén Nogueiras, Dr. Liliana Fonseca, Dr. Julia von Schnürbein, Prof. Alessandra Gambineri, Dr. Margherita Maffei, Prof. Robert K. Semple and Prof. Giovanna Lattanzi.

On 16 October, Prof. Giovanna Lattanzi will receive the “Celia Carrión Pérez de Tudela” Award in Lipodystrophy Research in recognition of her contribution to the field.

The second day, 17 October, will be dedicated to patients and relatives. It will include testimonies from the international lipodystrophy community, a session on patients’ rights, the presentation of a psychological support guide for lipodystrophies, and a discussion on mental health among patients, carers and family members.
